It’s Training and Behavior Tuesday!
When training your pet remember this: Rewards increase a behavior- good or bad.
Remember Kindergarten? When you got a sticker for doing well? Weren’t you more likely to repeat the behavior that earned you that sticker? Well your pet is no different, rewarding a behavior increases the likelihood that it will reoccur. Be careful though, as you could inadvertantly be rewarding a negative behavior i.e. petting your dog when he is barking. You saw it as trying to calm the dog so the barking would cease, but your dog interpretted it as “Good Boy- bark away!”
