Why Dogs Bark – Up the Wrong Tree?

 It's Training and Behavior Wednesday!

Q: Why does my dog bark?
A: Dogs bark for various reasons. Just as a parent can distinguish why a baby is crying, you can identify your dog's bark and thus determine why he/she is barking.

Barking can fall into several categories:

Alert Barking: Dog barks to let you know he/she has seen or heard something out of the ordinary.

Defensive Barking: Dog barks to make something he/she is afraid of or does not like go away.

Attention Barking: Dog wants attention

Frustration Barking: Dog is confused, frustrated, or stressed.

Boredom Barking: Dog barks to amuse himself/herself.
